About Pandora! and its rebirth
Difficulties in updating lead me to pursue building my own website. The purpose of this site soon became to show off the "polished" version of Pandora rather than moving the webcomic archives. The original Pandora started in the winter of 2003, and it was intended to be something like a sitcom. The comics I grew up reading had large casts, such as Archie comics. You'll see that happening with Pandora. Read about the characters here.
I'd been doing comics all my life, but didn't do anything with them. The webcomic "Boy Meets Boy" inspired me to have my own comic available online; its existence made me feel one of my comics ought to exist online. I began considering which of my stories I ought to redo in order to have a presence online....
In the early days of comic plotting
I decided to do something new. Thinking about a new character, and the age-old advice I had never before taken ("write what you know"), I created the first character: Alice. No, I'm not a drag queen. Many parts of his personality are similar to my own, for better or worse. All of my character share some aspect of my personality, past or present, good or bad. I build from there.
Pandora exists as comedy and drama, but I also wanted to exploit, bend, and break stereotypes. Or enforce them for comedic effect. At any rate, there were no epic space battles or amazing sword fights (which I dearly love and which also exist in earlier stories of mine). Instead, Pandora is a daily-life sort of comic with a slightly off character set. That is what I know. That is what I chose to write.
At any case, I began rewriting Pandora in the fall of 2009. I have wanted to go back and tighten up the story and redraw it, but it was more important to further the story than to rewrite it. However, I'm turning the opportunity of having a new site into just the excuse I needed to move forward with the rewriting of Pandora.
If you know and love the original Pandora, fear not: All of the main plots still exist; I plan to expound upon the storyline, flesh out things that were glazed over, and toss out useless details or happenings. Everything you love about the original will be intact, and with a little something extra added.
And if this is your first run-in with Pandora, I hope you will enjoy it!
